[UPDATED] Shah Rukh Khan in Toronto on Oct 26th for RA One Premiere…But Who Really Cares?
Looks like King Kahn will be landing at Pearson Airport Wednesday October 26th at 11.30. Time to get your best ‘I’m sick’ voice ready.
The premiere will take place at the TIFF Lightbox starting at 7.30. Mind you, I imagine people will be lining up long before then. In the meantime, if the recent IIFA awards was any indication, folks should start warming up their vocal cords now.
This movie is quite ambitious by Indian Cinema standards and the global marketing accompanying it is even more bold. With this film, the producers are hoping to shake off the stigma of second-rate films that Bollywood films produce. Quite frankly, the trailer looks weird and way cheesy, so I am sorry to say that this looks like more of the same, which isn’t bad, but really not good enough for the pomp and circumstance surrounding it.
Coupled with this, the event producers for the premiere are more worried about selling tickets at $200 bucks a pop to the screening as well hocking an After-Party. So it would seem that SRK’s visit to Toronto is probably wasted as a select of the same wrong few will see the film and the ones who should be seeing it, simply won’t care.
All that said, below is the trailer for Ra.One plus the full video of the main song, Chamak Challo, that we dropped the teaser of a while ago featuring the musical stylings of Akon. (Btw, how much money do you think they had to pay Akon to learn Hindi ..hehe)
If you do pay $200, then I question your spending habits. Nonetheless, I hope the movie delivers because from what I have seen so far, you will probably be disappointed.

Ra.One (Hindi: रा.वन) is a 2011 Hindi science fiction superhero film written and directed by Anubhav Sinha, and starring Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles. It also stars Shahana Goswami, Dalip Tahil and Chinese-American actor Tom Wu in supporting roles, along with Rajinikanth, Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra making guest appearances. The film is jointly produced by Eros International and Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, and was originally scheduled to release on 3 June 2011. However, due to extensive post-production work involving special effects and the 3D conversion, its release was postponed, and had a worldwide opening during the Diwali weekend on 26 October 2011. Ra.One is currently India’s most expensive film to date. The film released across a record 5,000 screens worldwide in 2D and around 600 screens in 3D, along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and German.
