#morebraaains – AMC Greenlights ‘The Walking Dead’ For A Third Season

By in Television on October 25, 2011

Hot on the heels of it’s record-breaking season premiere, we are now getting the news that The Walking Dead has been picked up for its third season. Given the turmoil of the summer when they lost their showrunner Frank Darabont, there was a bit of a question on how the series would fare this season.

After opening with 7.3 million viewers watching, (the most ever in basic cable for a premiere), this renewal is really not surprising at all.

Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s President.

It seems that the viewership is not going away either. In its second week, The Walking Dead only slipped a bit to 6.7 million viewers. And it seems that this is not a local phenomenon. Fox International Channels rolled out the series premiere globally this weekend and quite literally broke pay-TV ratings records’ across the world bringing in another 10 million viewers from 122 countries.

Nicely done.
