Rumor: Angelina Jolie In Talks To Direct ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

By in Film on June 7, 2012

Looks like the 50 Shades of Grey phenomenon isn’t going anywhere any time soon.  It shouldn’t be too much of a shock that the book-of-the-moment is heading to the big screen. After all it has its roots with another huge phenomenon, Twilight, having started out as fan-fiction for it.

The books, written by E.L. James, are one of the biggest top-selling books as of late, focusing on a woman and her explicit, kinky relationship with the title character.

So who better to direct the movie than the one and only Angelina Jolie. Deadline first reported the rumour and we must remember that it is just that however, if this bit of news doesn’t bring this to the forefront of a lot of folks minds, then nothing will.

If this is true, there is a lot that needs to happen before  Jolie is busy directing Disney‘s Maleficent first. So it will be a bit until we see it if she is in fact in the director’s chair.

For now, the negotiations between Universal who owns the rights to the movie and Jolie’s people and the author’s people (who all deny this is even happening) carry on.

What do you think? Is she a good choice?

For those of you who have been living under a rock, here is a synopsis of the book:

Fifty Shades of Grey follows the story of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and 22-year-old virgin college student Anastasia Steele, who develop a relationship steeped in bondage, S&M, domination and submission. The sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed continue their story. The erotically-charged novels have been referred to as “mommy porn” in The New York Times.
