The 2011 IIFA Awards were handed out in Toronto.  The city quite literally went nuts. People fainted, the carpet was green instead of red and some of the most beautiful and talented people in the world danced and sung their hearts showing why the charm of Indian Cinema is now seeping throughout the world.

According to reports, the first 7,000 tickets for this year’s International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Toronto were completely sold out within five minutes. The now sold out three-day event – dubbed the “Indian Oscars” – will be in North America for the first time and features a film festival, dozens of cultural events and a June 25 awards show at the Rogers Centre.

If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to secure your ticket in advance, you can still be a part of the action with some great content available from Rogers.

For the first time in the history of the IIFA Awards, more than 4.5 hours of coverage of the event will be available on pay per view. If you’re a Digital Cable subscriber, you can order the IIFA Awards for $39.95 in either SD or HD and watch the event live as it happens on June 25 starting at 8 pm. The live broadcast will be covered in both English and Hindi.

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) today announced that The Bay and top international designers, Sabyasachi, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Vikram Phadnis will be showcasing a collection of their respective work at IIFA Rocks presented by The Bay, a flagship event of the 12th Annual Videocon d2H IIFA Weekend. The high fashion and music event will take place on June 24, 2011 at the Ricoh Coliseum. The IIFA Celebrations in Canada are presented by CIBC and hosted by the Ontario Government.

Beautiful Indian actress Neha Dupia will take to the catwalk in a show-stopping segment highlighting collections from top Canadian designers at The Bay, Canada’s famed fashion destination. Superstar trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy will perform live as models introduce the best in international haute couture and designer fashion.

IIFA also announced that IIFA Award-winning actor, producer and director Karan Johar and effervescent actress and model Anushka Sharma have signed on as co-hosts. JOhar will reprise his hosting duties, having hosted the music and fashion extravaganza in 2008 in Bangkok. Sharma made her debut stage performance at the IIFA Awards in Macau in 2009. The announcement was made today, at a press conference in Delhi, attended by venerable actor and longtime IIFA supporter, Anil Kapoor.

Sabyasachi, known for his neo-traditional designs has found favour with a host of Indian celebrities including Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee. Walking his exquisite creation down the ramp will be Bengali beauty, Bipasha Basu. Delhi based designer, Rajesh Pratap Singh is famous for his clean, sharp designs that combine the global and the traditional to create international designs that retain an unambiguous element of India. Kunal Kapoor and Rahul Khanna are set to be dazzle in pieces from Rajesh’s collection.

A special design segment will be showcased by the Gitanjali Group – “Gitanjali Jewels presents Nizam by Vikram Phadnis”, inspired by the rich traditions of Indian royalty and evoking the opulence of a bygone era. Gitanjali will present a dynamic entertainment featuring the cast of the IIFA World Premiere film, Double Dhamaal, and a live performance by the popular and talented singer, Parthiv Gohil.

In an international first, legendary Indian playback singer Sonu Nigam will team with Grammy Award nominee and iconic American popstar Jermaine Jackson in a dazzling performance at IIFA Rocks presented by The Bay in tribute to his brother, the late ‘King of Pop,’ Michael Jackson.

IIFA Rocks is a dazzling event that shines a spotlight on the world of fashion, with live musical performances from popular internationals artists in support of the IIFA Foundation. The IIFA Foundation supports families of film industry workers who have been adversely affected during the production of films. This year, IIFA Rocks will also announce the 12th Floriana IIFA Technical Award winners and feature musical performances by top stars and international music artists, including Neha Dupia, Dia Mirza, Mallika Sherawat, the cast of Double Dhamaal, Shankar-Eshaan-Loy and is co-hosted by Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar.

Nigam, one of India’s most revered playback singers hosted the wildly popular televised Indian singing competition Sa Re Ga Ma. Nigam, who credits Michael Jackson for influencing his career, released a tribute song to the late pop idol in collaboration with his fans on Facebook. It was featured on the album, The Beat of our Hearts, a tribute to Michael Jackson, an 18-song compilation of international artists.

Jackson, the older brother of the late Michael Jackson was a member of one of the world’s most beloved R&B groups – The Jackson 5. Nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for his 1980 album Let’s Get Serious, Jackson has had numerous Billboard Top 30 hits including Daddy’s Home, That’s How Love Goes and Let’s Get Serious. A duet with his brother Michael, Tell Me I’m Not Dreamin’ (Too Good to Be True), hit #1 on the dance chart in 1984. Don’t Take It Personal, hit #1 on the Billboard R&B singles chart.

The event will feature fashion from collections available at The Bay, as well as renowned Indian designers, Sabyasachi, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Vikram Phadnis.
