One of the defining moments in Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables is when the cast sings the iconic song that ends the first act of the musical, One Day More. It brings all characters of the musical together into one unit on stage and does so and then some when it is performed in the movie.
After seeing the film a little while back, my immediate thought was that Universal really missed some opportunities with their marketing. Sure you have to get to people not that familiar with the musical to get on board and invest the 2.5 hours the movie runs, however if you want to get the diehards (and there are a ton of them around the world), just put the major numbers out there for the internet to swallow up and pass around.
They teased it very successfully with Anne Hathaway in the first trailer, however now somewhere in Spain, someone decided it would be a good idea to release the sequence for One Day More.
Brilliant.
Check it out below and while it is pretty damn great, I can’t stress to you enough how much better it plays on the big screen within the flow of the movie.
Still it is pretty fun to watch an icon be redefined.

The film is very different than anything ever made for the big screen. It has transcended the issues that have plagued musicals to the big screen projects for decades and created an intimacy with both the subject and the music that we never realized was lacking and quite frankly after seeing this film, the musical will never be the same again – both in a good and bad way. The result is a soundtrack that might not be what you expect.
With a musical, the songs will translate well onto the recording as the actor’s job is to merely sing the perfect song and let that be the thing that builds the emotion. With Hooper’s film, this soundtrack doesn’t seem as majestic as the previous Broadway, Toronto, London versions. While that might seem a little bit off, it makes a ton more sense after you have seen the film as you get to connect the nuance and the powerhouse acting the film brought with how the music was portrayed. In my opinion, and with all due respect to the musical of which I am a huge fan of, the medium of film allowed a more proper rendition of the songs with power and emphasis on the story.
At any rate, enough blabbing from me.

Word has been overwhelmingly positive for Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables starring Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Samantha Barks, Aaron Tveit, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Initial screenings have been received well. Coupled with a nicely done campaign that gave us a teaser trailer, the tv spots, some great posters, a pretty glorious photospread in Vogue, next up we have another TV spot that has been playing in high rotation lately. There is nothing really new with it as it just seems to be a much shorter version of the international trailer that dropped awhile back.
Still it is pretty to watch and you know that this film is a big one for me. Check it out below and stay tuned for our ongoing coverage.

With Skyfall now over and that being the big blockbuster that studios with Christmas movies have been waiting for, the marketing barrage for this movies can begin. First one out of the gate is the one to beat with Universal Studios’ Les Misérables.

After the teaser, the tv spots, and some posters, we now get a new trailer out of the for Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables starring Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Samantha Barks, Aaron Tveit, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helena Bonham Carter which has just dropped over in the UK and man is it a doozy.
There is a ton of singing that we have not seen yet and quite frankly all of it looks great. We also see pretty much everyone in the cast this time around which is new. We also get to see the story played out a lot more, well the first act of the musical anyways.
A couple of parts gave me shivers watching the musical come alive on screen so well. There is quite a bit going on here so I would suggest you just watch the trailer below.

Les Misérables is one of the movies for me. The first part of my life was spent in musical theatre and I have seen the musical version of this story 8 times in 4 countries. It is for that reason that I may have a more critical eye when it comes to this particular film adaptation.
It seems that Tom Hooper has a huge hit on his hands as the footage we have seen so far in the trailers already dropped are fantastic. So far Universal Studios has also done an excellent job of promoting this film with the plethora of images, posters and then that series of characters that have dropped over the past few weeks.
Now we have two TV spots that have just been released and I just have two words…
Goosebumps.
I am ALL in with this film as it seems to be on the right track and done no wrong by me.
Check out the 90 seconds and 30 seconds TV Spots below and let me know what you think.
