It’s opened in China already and there are some reviews out there saying just how awesome Wang Kar Wai‘s The Grandmaster. Now we have a beautiful trailer for the film.
Doing some duty to appease the Chinese overlords that approved filming Iron Man 3 in China, Robert Downey Jr. along with veteran Chinese actor and co-star Wang Xuequi, wishes everyone a Happy Chinese New Year.
RZA‘s passion project The Man With The Iron Fists is finally upon us. Having surprised a lot of people (including myself), all of the marketing materials we have seen have shown us that he has taken this great cast featuring Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu and given us the perfect homage to kung-fu movies blending the martial arts and hip-hop.
And his latest bit of marketing is no different.
The rapper/actor/filmmaker teamed up with animation director Eric Calderon (co-producer of the Afro Samurai TV mini-series) to give us a three-minute prequel called The Encounter. In it we get a bit of the backstory of his character including how he ended up in Asia as well as his first meeting with the indestructible ‘Brass Body’ played in the movie by ex-WWE star Dave Bautista, (check out his character trailer here).

If you still need some convincing about RZA‘s directorial debut, check out these recently released featurettes. I have been big on this movie since the first red-band trailer came out. Mind you I am kind of biased as I am a fan of the kung-fu genre. He has had some help from Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino and with a cast featuring the likes of Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Rick Yune, Chun Le and David Bautista (who according to the featurette will fck you up), the odds are definitely stacked in the movie’s favour.
There is a part in the second featurette, with Crowe that simply sums up why I want to see this film.

You know RZA is not just going to do things half-assed with his directorial debut, the Kung-Fu flick The Man With The Iron Fists. We have seen a multitude of individual character trailers, a couple of different very well done Red-Band Trailers plus you can listen to a stream of the full soundtrack.
Next up, we have not one but SIXTEEN posters for the movie done by artists Chad Roberts, David Ikeda, Ian Keltie, Jeff Stevens, Joshua Andrew Belanger, Margart Berg, Ravi Rochanayon, Shawn Knight and Yasushi Ono.
Everytime I lean towards one, I see another and start leaning towards that. I honestly want to get my hands on all of them, frame them and put them around my office I dig them that much.

Everything is coming along rather nicely for RZA‘s The Man With The Iron Fists. A couple of red-band trailers, a couple of character trailers featuring Cung Le‘s Bronze Lion and Lucy Liu‘s Madame Blossom have given us a great glimpse into what is shaping up to be the sleeper hit of the fall movie season.
Next up we have Russell Crowe diving all the way into his character Jack Knife. After watching the trailer, it makes me happy that he seems to be relishing the role of a bad guy, (and I mean a really, really bad guy).
