One of the key elements of a great heist film is the introduction of the ones pulling off the caper. If we don’t believe that the characters have the ability to pull it off, it doesn’t matter how inventive it was, we as the audience just will not believe.

So far I have seen absolutely nothing wrong with anything to do with the highly inventive Now You See MeThe first trailer caught every one (including myself) off guard on the potential of it.

One of the films that I am very intrigued to check out is the heist film Now You See Me. Partly because the cast is stacked,

The sequel train in rolling merrily along as we have details on the follow-up to the pretty great Rio by Blue Sky Studios.

Hot on the heels of a very cool trailer that we posted yesterday comes a really great gallery of images from the refreshingly original heist film Now You See Me. Featuring a pretty stacked cast that includes Jesse EisenbergMark RuffaloWoody HarrelsonMelanie LaurentIsla FisherDave FrancoCommon, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine it looks like it also has a refreshingly original story to go with it.

We are still a far ways out from it, however for a first glance, I like what I see so far. The thing is that a great heist movie is going to be either really, really amazing or it will really, really suck. For the sake of what I am seeing below and the trailer, I am hoping for amazing.

Now You See Me opens on June 7, 2013.

About The Film The Four Horsemen, a magic super-group led by the charismatic ATLAS (Jesse Eisenberg), perform a pair of high-tech magic shows, first astonishing audiences by robbing a bank on another continent, and then exposing a white-collar criminal and funneling his millions into the audience members’ bank accounts.

FBI Special Agent DYLAN (Mark Ruffalo) is determined to make the magicians pay for their crimes—and to stop them before they pull off what promises to be an even more audacious heist. But he’s forced to partner with ALMA (Melanie Laurent), an Interpol detective about whom he is instantly suspicious. Out of desperation he turns to THADDEUS (Morgan Freeman), a famed magic debunker, who claims the bank heist was accomplished using disguises and video trickery. One thing Dylan and Alma agree on is that the Horsemen must have an outside point person, and that finding him (or her) is key to ending the magicians’ crime spree. Could it be Thaddeus? Or Alma? Or could it really be…magic?

As pressure mounts and the world awaits the Horsemen’s spectacular final trick, Dylan and Alma race to find an answer. But it soon becomes painfully clear that staying one step ahead of these masters of illusion is beyond the skills of any one man—or woman.

This film had me at ‘Also Starring Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine‘. Or is it the fact that I am huge sucker for a great, inventive and original heist film that Now You See Me seems to be. I really wish they would make more of those types of films because to pull off a heist takes brains and planning. To pull of a proper heist film you need all that and more.

With this new trailer that just dropped, it seems that Now You See Me has the makings of a great film. Powered by a great cast that includes Jesse EisenbergMark RuffaloWoody HarrelsonMelanie Laurent, Isla FisherDave FrancoCommon and of course the already mentioned Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine it looks like it also has a refreshingly original story to go with it.

From the trailer below, I am going to be so bold that it has the potential to be Thomas Crown Affair good (the Brosnan one, not the weird Norman Jewison one).  Maybe not as clever, but a movie that may just surprise. And on that alone, I am very much intrigued to see how it plays out.
