This is one of the great things about living in such a fragmented media market. Shows that should see the light actually do.
I had gone into Breakout Kings with an open mind and a little bit of hope as the teaser commercials were pretty fantastic. The only negative thing was a review I had read that said the show wasn’t that great.
Well, that reviewer was very, very wrong because I had a ton of fun watching the show and am very much looking forward to the rest of the season.
The show, which was rescued by A&E after Fox passed on the pilot in May, drew the highest demo numbers for an A&E drama series, 1.5 million adults 18-49 and 1.6 million adults 25-54. That was up 25% in adults 18-49 and 14% in adults 25-54 from the previous network record holder, the July 2010 debut of the network’s The Glades. In 18-49, Breakout Kings outperformed recent cable scripted premieres, including that of USA‘s Fairly Legal. In total viewers, Breakout Kings drew 2.8 million, short of The Glades’ record of 3.6 million. – Deadline.com
I can’t believe FOX passed on it. Oh well, their loss is A&E’s gain as the show will quickly become my guilty pleasure if they keep this up. And I think they will.
Filmed in Toronto, this new A&E series from the makers of “Prison Break“, the drama is about fugitives helping the police catch other fugitives.
Breakout Kings is a smart, action-packed drama with great storytelling and authentic well-drawn characters,” said Bob DeBitetto, President & General Manager of A&E. “Clearly the series has struck a chord with the younger viewers, which we have welcomed to the network through our stable of unscripted programming. We’re off to a great start.”
Watching the promo for the season, it turns out that T-Bag from Prison Break is going to be one of the escaped convicts the team will go after.
Brilliant.
I am all in.
