Steven Soderbergh is going out with bang.
It was recently announced that after the current projects he has in development, he will retire from filmmaking which is sad because he is such a talent.
Case in point is the recent trailer for his upcoming movie Contagion which was simply awesome.
Now we have a trailer for the movie he is following up Contagion with and it’s so good that I am not getting sad that he is leaving.
Haywire is Soderbergh’s foray into action films and for it he chose MMA star Gina Carano as his lead to back up a pretty impressive cast which includes Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Michael Angarano.
I love what I see with this trailer however something is bugging me and I hope it doesn’t become a problem. If the movie focuses on the fighting elements with Carano, then we will be ok because the ones who can actually act will pick up the slack there. If she has to do more than kick ass, then we might have a problem. Any other director and I would be worried. In the case of Soderbergh, he has the uncanny ability to bring out the best in non-actors a la Sasha Grey so we should be good.
I will say, she looks great and when she fights, she looks almost poetic and that is very exciting.
What say you?
Here is the official synopsis:
