Coming off a ton of great buzz from The Toronto International Film Festival, Argo, directed by Ben Affleck is the one to watch this fall as it is thought to be a serious Oscar contender. With it opening Oct 12, the marketing is starting to drop. The official was released a couple of weeks ago during TIFF and a couple of days ago, Warner Bros Canada’s Facebook unveiled three character posters.

Check them out below and I will see you opening weekend.

About the Film Based on true events, Argo chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the US embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIAexfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. Argo hits theaters starting October 12th.

I am so very, very happy. I fully blame my very dry and weird sense of humour on the Monty Python crew and god bless them for it. Their movies were a true inspiration to me growing up. So when it was announced at the Toronto International Film Festival that A Liar’s Biography : The Untrue Story of Monty Python’s Graham Chapman put together by the Monty Python crew in honour of their comrade, that little boy started getting giddy.

They just dropped the trailer in time for its TIFF premiere and let me tell, the grown-up side up is damn giddy as well. And so very, very happy that we are getting ourselves a modern-day Monty Python movie. So very happy. :)

Alright enough of me. Behold the Trailer!

About the Film Monty Python’s Flying Circus” creators Bill Jones, Ben Timlett and Jeff Simpson are directing and producing A Liar’s Autobiography, the film which adapts a false biography following the late Graham Chapman’s progress through medical school, alcoholism, acknowledgment of his gay identity and the toils of surreal comedy. Chapman’s voice from a book recording is being used in the adaptation and John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin have all recorded their voices for segments in the film.

A Liar’s Autobiography is set to hit select US theaters in 3D and the EPIX channel simultaneously November 2nd.

It might be Bill Murray‘s Oscar Season this year. His latest is a turn as FDR in the upcoming Hyde Park On The Hudson and there has been plenty of buzz around it as the trailers and everything look great. Telluride was host to its World Premiere and here is how the social space reacted to it.

And the beat goes on with the Telluride Film Festival. Basically we are all getting a preview to #TIFF12 and whether or not you should use one of your precious slots with a particular film. Next up we have Ken BurnsCentral Park Five which had its premiere earlier.

Check out the buzz in the social sphere below. Quick note, if you are interested in this doc but its sold out already a TIFF, check out the very well-made West Memphis 3. You will thank me later.

I have seen a few “film-critic‘s” TIFF12 lists saying that the Greta Gerwig starring Frances Ha and directed by Noah Baumbach is going to be a turkey. It just had its screening at the Telluride Film Festival and it seems that these critics are going to be eating crow (as they usually do anyways) because the response has been overwhelmingly positive about the film.

Check out a snapshot of the social conversations below:

One of the big films on the festival circuit that is garnering a huge amount of buzz is Deepa Mehta‘s Midnight Children. Based on the book by Salman Rushdie (who also helped a bit with the screenplay), it was supposed to have its World Premiere at TIFF12 next week until Telluride scooped another film from them.

First reactions on the social spaces are out and they are very good. We will be catching it soon and obviously have a review for you. Stay tuned to Xavierpop for the most comprehensive coverage in Canada of not only TIFF12 but all the fests including Venice and Telluride.
