Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master has a huge amount of attention being thrust up on it. Everything looks great about it and it has done a masterful job of building buzz through various advanced Guerrilla screenings in the States. The Venice Film Festival had the World Premiere and below are the first reactions on the social sphere:
I think I am really beginning to like Telluride. Not only is their movie line-up really stacked, I am rather enjoying this focus on good movies thing they have. Unlike the Toronto International Film Festival which has plenty of questionable choices, it seems that if it plays in Telluride, it will be a great watch.
The festival opened a few hours ago with a surprise announcement being Ben Affleck’s highly anticipated Argo and word is that it’s really, really good. The Venice Film Festival is in full swing and the latest big film to have its World Premiere is the highly anticipated Spike Lee doc on the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Michael Jackson’s iconic album Bad. The doc, which promises a great look at the making of the album and the influence the album has had since. This one is on the top of my list for TIFF, however it has also been announced that ABC will be airing it on TV later this Fall so I might just skip at the fest and catch it on TV.
At any rate, the first reactions have dropped and we have compiled them for you below.
Venice, Telluride then Toronto.
That is the order of the launch of Oscar season and with Venice launching to favourable reviews for The Reluctant Fundamentalist we now have the first press release from Telluride announcing a whole bunch of the titles. The thing with Telluride is that they don’t announce their lineup weeks in advance. In fact, the full lineup and schedule will be announced Aug. 31st.
Stay tuned as MovieJay will break down the fest in the way that only he can. After seeing his vast, detailed and unmatched preview of TIFF and all of its programmes, Venice Film Festival was next. Check out the lineup that has already been announced below. It looks like TIFF12 is getting the tail end of the stick in the festival lineup as pretty much all of the heavy-hitting films that it was proud ‘to have gotten’ are playing at both Venice and Telluride.
All this is good for the filmmakers because the more places available to them in festivals, the more that people will get a chance to watch them.

The 69th Venice Film Festival started out strongly with Mira Nair‘s The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Reaction was favourable making it an even hotter ticket for TIFF12.
